Denia Brielle Smith is a nationally recognized activist, grassroots organizer, and public speaker passionate about racial and gender equity.

Denia’s advocacy began in June 2020 when she organized a #BlackLivesMatter march garnering 1,000 attendees, the largest demonstration in her town's history. She has since organized several marches for various social justice issues and created The WW-P POC Advocacy: a youth organization advocating for racially equitable education reform across 5 schools in Mercer County, New Jersey. Driven by her passion for promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Denia served as a Youth Advisor to Harvard Graduate School of Education's Making Caring Common Initiative, where she collaborated with student-leaders nationwide to make US schools more equitable and inclusive places for all.

What began as strides to improve the lives of students in her community evolved into a life-long mission to advocate for justice and equity. Denia has worked with numerous organizations to contribute toward equitable social change, including the United Nations Foundation’s Girl Up Campaign, Blue Future + the Youth Progressive Action Catalyst, the African American Policy Forum, PolicyLink, PERIOD., and more. She also uses her voice on local, national, and international platforms to discuss youth activism, intersectionality, racial/gender equity, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), and women’s empowerment. Most recently, Denia’s story has reached 55,000 viewers (and growing) through Lancome’s Write Her Future Campaign.

Denia continues to give back to her community through She Shall Speak, a podcast and global empowerment community dedicated to inspiring Black girls to pursue civic service, entrepreneurship, and social justice. She Shall Speak has touched the lives of Black girls throughout the world, garnering over 400 streams across 25 U.S. states and 20 countries.

Denia is currently a freshman at American University in Washington D.C., where she intends to major in Political Science and minor in African American studies while pursuing a certificate in Advanced Leadership Studies. In the future, Denia aspires to use her experience in grassroots activism and research to enact equitable changes at the intersection of racial and gender equity in legal systems. She hopes to attend law school, work as an attorney at the ACLU or NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and become the first Black woman to serve as a US Senator from New Jersey.

“My purpose in life is simple: to be of service to my community and humanity by advocating for justice for all.”
